Fishing Report -- 06-09-12

Sam and his two sons, Will & Nick, from Tennessee joined me for a night trip, must be that they see a lot of rain there because it rained on us for the first half of the night. This didn’t phase them at all, perhaps they are just crazy fishermen, those are the best kind. The main objective for the night was to fish Snook on fly under the docklights. I had managed to catch a few live baits earlier so we started the trip by trying to get something big out of the Palm Beach inlet. We caught the very end of the outgoing tide and fishing was tough to say the least. We only had a handful of bites. Nick had a nice size fish on that got off after fighting hard for quite a while (either big Jack of big Snook). Sam had a Tarpon hit his bait on the surface but missed and didn’t come back and Nick landed a decent size Jack. That was it, very disappointing, we should have at least gotten a few nice Snook and Tarpon bites. We eventually gave up on that plan and headed for the docklights. Thankfully this Snook bite was pretty good. Catching these fish on fly adds to the challenge. Sam was first and within a few casts landed his first Snook. Having shown the boys how it’s done they too landed Snook and Lookdowns on fly. Before the night was over Dad had to show the youngsters up by catching the biggest Snook of the night. Better luck next time boys, Dad still rules.
