Fishing Report -- 05-09-12

Today was a fishing with family day. My in-laws, Bob & Carol, joined me for a short morning trip. Bob and Carol don’t get to fish much in the salt water so when we saw that the weather was going to be nice we made the best of it. Summer is knocking on the door and we are getting more calm mornings each week. The live bait has started to show and so are the summertime species. It took just under an hour to get all the live bait we needed, sardines, and we headed off shore to see what the morning was going to offer up. The water was very clean today, this is usually a sign that the King Fish fishing will be a little slow, however the Kings must have wanted to impress the in-laws and were out in full force. Also Kings typically will bite sardines short and stinger hooks are necessary to catch them. Not today, they were taking the whole bait well and we fished with single hook rigs all morning. Within minutes of the first bait going out Bob was hooked up to his first fish. It was a medium sized King. Next was Carol’s turn and she landed a Bonito. The fast and furious action continued most of the morning. Bob had the hot touch today and caught the most fish however Carol ended up with the biggest. They mostly caught Kings, the landed count was seven. For a little variety there was a Bonito and a Cobia caught too. Awesome weather, good live bait, cooperative fish and great company all contributed to a fantastic morning’s fishing.
