Fishing Report -- 05-16-12

Today was another fishing with family day. My Mom hasn’t been on my boat fishing in about 10 years. My Dad and her both had the day off and with a little persuading my dad and I managed to talk her into coming fishing with the boys. The ocean was nice and calm but it was a little cloudy and a south current. South current is usually the kiss of death for offshore. We figured we may as well give it our best shot. The action wasn’t crazy good but it was fairly busy with Kings and Bonitos. Then of course my Mom had to show off a little. We had a bait out on a wire leader and when it got hammered on the surface we thought it was just another Kingfish. A little into the fight we noticed it was pulling just too much to be a King. It stayed down for the longest time before coming to the surface and man what a nice Blackfin Tuna it was. It was right in that 40 lb area. After we took the photos we released it to be caught another day. What a nice catch, that is the biggest Blackfin caught on my boat. Caught on wire leader none the less. Imagine what we could catch if my Mom came out more often.
