Fishing Report -- 04-13-12

Another crazy windy day today, 20 plus miles per hour East winds so fishing in the ocean was out. Art was in town and I really wanted to get him into the ocean to catch the Jack Crevalles on fly however it was not to be. The fly rods were on board but saw very little action. To add to the challenge of dealing with the really strong winds the fish weren’t cooperating very nicely. We had nice medium sized mullet with the plan to fish them up against structure looking for the big bite. Big bait, big fish. Unfortunately the big bite didn’t come today, as hard as we tried it was just a tough day on the water. We had a number of Snook hit the mullet but they just weren’t big enough to eat them. We didn’t need smaller bait, we just needed bigger fish to eat them. Art was a trooper and hung in there all day, a sure sign of a true fisherman. Some days the fishing experience has to outweigh the fish catching. We didn’t go totally empty handed though for our efforts. Art landed a 27 inch Snook, a 10 lb Jack, a smaller Jack on fly and a nice Bluefish. Not the banner catching day we were hoping for however still quality time on the water. Next time Art hopefully we’ll get the fly thing going good and make up for today.
