The
algae bloom doesn’t seem to be affecting the fishing. Tarpon, Snook, Sea Trout,
Jacks, Barracuda & Ladyfish. Not too bad for a morning's fishing.

Fishing Report -- 04-23-16
Today
Zach was on board for a fly fishing only day. Zach must have been a very good
boy recently because the ocean was extremely good to him today. The weather
forecast was a little iffy but it swung to the better than expected side and
allowed us to get into the ocean and have an absolute blast. The day started
nice and early in the dark fishing dock lights for Snook. I think just over 15 Snook
and a few Jacks were landed before the sun came up. The biggest Snook was 27
inches. Right as the sun came up the bigger Jacks started busting mullet close by
and Zach got into the action with two nice 20 lb class fish taken on popper. We
ventured into the ocean and found minnows close to the beach being hit by False
Albacore (Bonitos). Zach landed 3 fish the biggest weighing 18 lbs (also on
popper). The Jacks were also showing in good numbers near the Albies. Zach got
to catch as many as he wanted with the largest weighing in at 28 lbs. We had a
brief encounter with a Cobia and some disinterested sharks to round out the
day. Pretty nice day when the angler catches pretty much everything that came
by, nicely done Zach.
Fishing Report -- 04-16-16
Tough
day of Snook fishing for Roy and Ollie today as the live bait guy did not show.
Without the smaller live baits (Pilchards or Threadfins) the Snook fishing around
the docks is so much tougher. We did manage to net some mullet to use however the
mullet were a little more on the Tarpon bait size than on the Snook size. They didn’t
get a lot of bites but the bites they did get with the bigger baits were
quality size Snook.

Fishing Report -- 03-26-16
Al
was with me for another day of fly fishing with the mission to upsize the targeted
species a bit. The Snook on fly the other night were fun but we were after the
Spinner Sharks on fly this time. The sharks have started leaving early this
year and it was tough going early on. We were not seeing any signs of sharks. Although
it was not too windy the ocean had a nasty chop on it which made keeping your balance
and fly casting at the same time challenging. We did come across some Spanish
Mackerel and Bluefish which kept Al busy for a while until we finally bumped
into some sharks. The first shark Al hooked was a jumper but after about 5 or
so jumps it managed to break the wire leader. The next shark hooked cooperated
nicely and stayed hooked. Al did well to keep good pressure on the fish
throughout the fight although the boat was rocking and rolling pretty good.
After about 30 minutes Al landed his biggest fish on fly. Nicely done Al,
mission accomplished.

Fishing Report -- 03-11-16
Al
was onboard for some nighttime Snook on fly action. The daytime had been a little
on the windy side but by evening the wind died off somewhat and seeing that we
were fishing the eastern shoreline we were pretty protected from the wind.
Winter seems to have arrived late and left early this year and the temperature
was perfect. The Snook were out in decent numbers but were not crazy eager to
eat the fly. The first few lights we hit the fish were pretty cooperative but
after that they seemed to slow down on the bite. Al did well to land a few fish
and catch his first nighttime Snooks on fly. He’d played golf all day prior to
coming fishing, so I believe his bigger accomplishment was having enough energy
left to be able to wield the fly rod for the evening.

Ben
joined me today for a trip to catch Spinner Sharks on fly. The weather was just
about perfect in the morning and we headed out with high hopes. The day before
the sharks were all over where they should be however as we kept running and
running it became evident that the sharks were nowhere to be seen. Just like magic
they disappeared over night. We are in the middle of the season and no good
reason for them to take off (not a full or new moon nor major weather system).
We were doing a ½ day trip so pressure was on to find some sharks before we ran
out of time. With only about 45 minutes of the trip left we got a call from
another guide who had a report of some sharks way north from where we were. We
high tailed it up there and fortunately found a few sharks. For as bad as our
luck had been to that point we got super lucky with a shark coming in within 5
minutes and eating the fly and staying hooked. Ben did a fine job fighting this
nice sized shark and landing it right before it was time to head back in. The
Spinners today we definitely not cooperating as they should however Ben did manage
to beat the odds and catch and release his first Spinner Shark on fly.

Fishing Report -- 02-20-16
Federico,
Gaston, Adolfo and Francisco are part of the Argentinian contingency that
fished with me last week and on January 23. We were hoping for a repeat of last
weekend unfortunately the weather was not going to cooperate and we were not
going to be able to make it into the ocean. They still wanted to catch sharks so
we went to the one spot where they tend to hangout. Things started off a little
slow but finally as shark came calling. After about 20 minutes they landed and released
and decent size shark. After that it got quite again so we went on the troll. We
got a mixed bag of Blue fish, Barracuda, Spanish Mackerel and Jacks. Near the
end of the day they wanted to try the sharks again. A bigger shark this time
was hooked and with a team effort from all on board was landed and released.
Considering the conditions the guys did pretty well.

Fishing Report -- 02-13-16
Another
perfect weather day for light tackle fishing just of the beach. Diego, Claudio
and Shawn were the lucky winners of today’s perfect weather lottery. These guys
are from Argentina, our aquatic life is really liking these visitors lately. The
Jacks that were in the inlet yesterday had left however we did find then a little
ways down the beach, an enormous school of them. Only problem though was once
we caught a few the sharks honed in on the struggling fish and they decided to
get in on the action making it next to impossible to land anymore. Claudio got
the treat of the day by catching a shark on a lure using a big spinning rod,
that was really sweet. It was on a shark lure I made, pretty sweet even if I
say so myself. Rest of the day was a sharkfest for Diego, Claudio and Shawn all
landing multiple fish. All too soon it was time to head in and rest those weary
arms.
Fishing Report -- 02-12-16
Augusto
and his family were vacationing here from Luxembourg and he and his boys had a
real treat today. It was the nicest weather day of their whole vacation here
and we were lucky enough to go fishing. Ocean was calm and the fish were
cooperating nicely. There were hundreds for Jacks in the inlet chasing small
flying fish, quite something to see when about ½ a football field size school
of Jacks are on the surface hammering flying fish. It was incredible and went
on for about an hour. We eventually left the Jacks to go shark fishing. Sharks
were cooperating nicely too. It was awesome that our South Florida aquatic life
was so nice to our visitors from Europe, don’t miss South Florida too much as
you endure the rest of the winter.
