Today
was Mika, Jaana & Sherry’s turn to get in on the fish action. Like previous
days we started off catching Bluefish and Jacks for shark bait. Bluefish were
cooperating nicely with Mike & Janna both getting good numbers of decent
size Bluefish. As soon as we got out into the ocean the sharks were frisky and
ready to eat. Mika, Janna & Sherry each landed two sharks and decided they
had had enough exercise for the day. The fish were all fired up so I got to
break out the fly rod on them. They were coming in really charged up and
cooperating, I ended up with 4 landed. Another awesome shark fishing day. The
sharks were late showing up this year but they are here now and pretty fired
up.

Fishing Report -- 02-15-14
Today
it was Franklin & Doug on board to harass the local fish population. The
Bluefish and Jacks were cooperating nicely first thing in the morning with both
gentlemen catching good numbers. Next it was time to head out for the Spinner
Sharks. The ocean was pretty nice and the sharks were ready to bite. It wasn’t
long before the first sharks was on and jumping. Franklin & Doug had a ball
pulling on these jumping sharks for the rest of the day. After landing 4 sharks
each it was time to call it a day and go home to recover.

Simon
joined me for the day for some fly fishing. We started off the day pretty good
with a Snook. After that we headed to a spot to see if we could get the
Bluefish and Jacks to cooperate. A few were caught but not on fly, could not
locate a big enough concentration to get them going on fly. Next we headed into
the ocean to see if anything wanted to play out there. A few Blue Runners was
about it on the sinking line. Simon did manage to get two Blue Spotted Cornet
fish, somewhat of a rare catch. We tried for sharks on fly, they were around
but just weren’t getting fired up enough for the fly. Not that much of a
spectacular day of catching but good weather and good company still made it a
great day’s fishing.

Fishing Report -- 01-31-14
The
family fishing team of Zach, George and Shelly were on board today. First thing
in the morning the ocean was pretty rough so we started inside and worked our
way up towards Palm Beach inlet. Zach started the morning with a small Snook on
fly. Eventually we found the Bluefish with Shelly catching the first one on a
lure. After that it was good consistent action with everyone getting in on the
action. George landed a nice Jack in amongst the Bluefish and Zach got one on
fly. We noticed the wind had dropped so we poked out the Palm Beach inlet to
see how rough the ocean was. It was a little on the bumpy side but this fishing
family was up for the challenge of catching sharks in bumpy conditions. Once we
cast out the first bait I was still explaining to Zach how the drag on the reel
worked when he was hooked up to a good jumper. The action was fast a furious
after that with the time between bites being only minutes. Zach and George went
to town and laded between them 7 sharks and hooked and lost about another 5.
Moving around the boat hooked to 100 lb sharks in bumpy sea conditions is
challenging and these guys did well to not lose any fish to angler error. Shelly
elected to observe the chaos rather than participate in it. Great day on the
water with a family who truly love to fish together.
Fishing Report -- 01-29-14
Matt
& Erin must be my good luck charm for this year. Today was the first day I
saw any decent numbers of sharks this year, the sharks are a month late in
arriving into my area. The day started like the rest of the month has with not
much action on the beach and no sharks. Matt got two Jacks and Erin some
monster Blue Runners before we found the sharks. After this it was game on.
Conditions weren’t perfect but good enough. Between Matt and Erin 5 sharks were
landed with a few more hooked and lost. Matt had one hooked up on the fly for a
bit but it got off. Thanks to the Shark Whisperers our shark season can now get
underway.

Fishing Report -- 01-23-14
Pete
fished with me two days ago and although the ocean conditions were good the
tough fishing continued with only a Snook, few Blue Runners and a Trigger fish
being landed. We changed tactics to night fishing to see if we could change our
luck. Conditions were a little tough for targeting Snook at night, it was a
little on the cold side (for Florida) which typically slows down the Snook
action. We didn’t see as many Snook at the surface as I’d typically see however
we kept prospecting likely spots and considering the conditions Pete did very
well on the Snook with the fly rod. 5 fish landed and about another 5 hooked up
that managed to dislodge the fly. A Jack and a few Lookdowns rounded out the
night. Finally our winter fishery behaving somewhat like it should.
Fishing Report -- 01-18-14
Today
with Neal, Jason & Tom on board the struggle to find any decent numbers of
fish continued. By this time of the year I am typically catching Spinners
sharks regularly and also catching Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Jacks and
Amberjacks regularly. Not the case this year. Our winter fish species have just
not arrived here yet. We ran north in hopes of finding Spinner Sharks, no success.
The Jacks were not very cooperative today at all. Tom was the only angler to
land a Jack. Neal and Jason did manage to jig up 3 small Amberjacks to provide
some action. At the end of the day we put out a live Blue Runner and Neal got a
really nice 25 lb + size Cuda. Another struggle today on the ocean. Hopefully
things are about to turn around here soon with the colder weather.
Fishing Report -- 01-14-14
Today was a fly fishing and conventional tackle
combo trip. Zach, Alex and grandfather Richard were on board. Zach is a very accomplished
fly fisherman but unfortunately today South Florida just didn’t want to show
Zach how good fly fishing down here can be. It was a struggle to find any fish
that wanted to cooperate on the fly. Even with jigs and live bait it was a
struggle. The guys hung in there and Zach did manage two Jacks on fly and Alex
got a few on jigs and live bait. For this time of year we should be seeing
Bluefish, Jacks, Spanish Mackerel and Sharks all over the beach, they just are
not here yet. Hopefully this cold weather will start to bring them in.

Fishing Report -- 12-30-13
Larry
and Tad were on board today escaping the cold weather of up north. Good news
was that they picked the only nice weather day of the week, however the
catching was not as good a news. Although ocean conditions were great the fishing
was tough and Larry and Tad really worked hard for every fish. Even the sharks
were very difficult customers today. We only saw two and got one bite but no
hookups. We ended up jigging in about 50 feet of water which proved to be the
best action of the day with 5 small Amberjacks being landed. An unusual catch
of a Blue-spotted Cornetfish was landed by Larry. One medium sized Jack, a
Mutton Snapper, Blue Runners and a few small Grouper were also caught. Hats off
to these guys for hanging in there, hopefully when they are back to fish the
Spinner Sharks they will bring the good weather with them again.
Fishing Report -- 12-24-13
Day
before Christmas and Santa gave Kevin, Charlie & Brad an early Christmas
present in the form good weather conditions. The ocean was calm and we were
able to move around and pick away at the fish. With all the warm weather we
have been having this year the fish are not concentrated as they typically
would be, moving around seems to be the key to locating the fish. The guys
ended up with 3 sharks hooked, two landed. One decent size Jack, a few smaller
Jacks, a bunch of Spanish Mackerel and a bunch of Ladyfish. As we get further
into winter and hopefully get some colder weather fishing should become a
little more predictable.

It’s the windy time of the year again. When Dave
was here about 2 weeks ago the weather was perfect but today Dave & John
were not as lucky and it was windy and tough fishing. We made the best of it by
hitting the docks catching a mixed bag. Ended up with 5 Snook, a few Jacks,
Snappers, Pork fish and Sheephead. Nothing for the record books but enough
action to keep them busy.

Fishing Report -- 12-11-13
Today
the mission was to target just Sailfish. It feels a little weird going fishing
for sails when it is still so warm out. Winter may be a little delayed this
year in reaching South Florida however the Sailfish seem to be right on time. Calm
winds are the ticket to being able to reach the Sailfish this time of year in a
flats boat, fortunately conditions were just right. Ollie ended up with two
Sailfish to the boat and a visit from a Wahoo that bit us off just above the wire.
Other than these fish things were pretty quiet out there. Two Sailfish, not a
bad way to start off the holidays.

Fishing Report -- 12-03-13
Dave
and Dempsey were in town on somewhat of a nostalgic trip. Dave spent his
childhood in West Palm Beach so it was very interesting to hear how things have
changed since then. On the fishing side of things the mission was just to catch
whatever would stretch the line. Lots of action was the plan. The trip was very
busy with the father & son team catching Jack Crevalles, monster Bar Jacks, big Blue Runners,
Cero Mackerel and having a shot at a Spinner Shark. Between the two of them
they must have caught about 60 fish ranging from a few pounds to about 15 lbs.
No really big fish landed but certainly a lot of action.
